Congressman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury stated on Thursday that he can’t even imagine disrespecting President Droupadi Murmu and that he will personally meet with her and apologise as a result of the outrage over the “Rashtrapatni” statement.
He also questioned the inclusion of Interim President of Congress in this. “Even the thought of disrespecting the President escapes me. It was only an error. I would personally visit with her and apologise if the President had felt guilty. If they want to, they can hang me. I accept punishment, but why is Sonia Gandhi being brought into this?” stated Chowdhury.
Additionally, he released a video in defence of himself on Twitter and criticised BJP for exaggerating a misstep.
He further said, “Whoever serves as India’s president—a Brahmin or a tribal—a Rashtrapati is a Rashtrapati. It is an honourable and prestigious position. When media questioned me yesterday at a demonstration at Vijay Chock about our destination, I replied that we are heading to the Rashtrapati’s residence, to meet with the Rashtrapati.” Rashtrapatni abruptly came out of my mouth. That’s because Rashtrapati and Rashtrapatni have been the subject of so much conversation over the last several days. All of a sudden, simply once, it automatically came out.”
Congressman went on to say that he had asked media not to use the statement after saying it, but they had still broadcast the footage.
“I spoke to the media yesterday on the party’s behalf. When a reporter asked who I was, I said that I was Rashtrapatni. I told him it was an accident and begged him not to broadcast, but he did “stated Chowdhury.
He continued by claiming that BJP is purposefully exaggerating the problem. They are turning a small issue into a big one.
