Rajasthan Assembly Polls: BJP Announces 2nd List of Candidates, Vasundhara Raje to Recontest from Jhalrapatan

In the 2018 elections, the Congress secured 99 seats out of the 200-member state assembly, while the BJP won 73 seats.

On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly elections. The former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is set to run for re-election from the Jhalrapatan constituency. The list comprises 83 candidates, including prominent figures like former Rajasthan BJP president Satish Punia, who will contest from the Amber constituency, and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Rajendra Rathore, who will run in the Taranagar constituency. Former MP Jyoti Mirdha, who recently switched from the Congress to the BJP, is fielded from the Nagaur constituency.

Jhalrapatan holds significance as a traditional seat for Vasundhara Raje. The BJP had earlier released its first list of 41 candidates on October 9, featuring former union minister and MP Rajyavardhan Rathore in the Jhotwara constituency and Diya Kumari, MP, in the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency. Baba Balaknath and Kirodi Lal Meena will contest from the Tijara and Sawai Madhopur constituencies, respectively.

The BJP’s aim is to challenge the Congress and gain power in Rajasthan. In the 2018 elections, the Congress secured 99 seats out of the 200-member state assembly, while the BJP won 73 seats. The election, scheduled for November 25, will be closely watched as it could significantly impact the state’s political landscape. The votes will be counted on December 3, along with those from four other states going to the polls next month.
