In a bid to elevate India’s status as a global manufacturing hub, the Bharatiya Janata Party (c) outlined an ambitious agenda in its Lok Sabha manifesto released on Sunday. The party emphasized leveraging the manufacturing sector’s potential to foster economic growth, generate employment, and bolster self-reliance in global value chains.
Over the past decade, during its two consecutive five-year terms, the BJP-led government has spearheaded several initiatives to bolster the manufacturing landscape. Programs like Make in India, Production Linked-Incentive, and streamlined compliance procedures have been instrumental in propelling manufacturing growth.
“We are committed to further unlocking the transformative potential of manufacturing to create employment opportunities and drive economic expansion,” stated the BJP manifesto.
Recognizing India’s prowess in research, design, and engineering, the party underscored the synergy between these capabilities and the manufacturing sector. Emphasizing the importance of self-reliance and resilience, the BJP pledged to nurture an environment conducive to making India a manufacturing powerhouse.
Under the Make in India initiative, significant strides have been made in sectors such as electronics, defense, mobile, and automobiles. The BJP vowed to expand domestic defense manufacturing and boost exports of indigenous defense equipment.
Highlighting India’s emergence as a major engineering and design services hub, the BJP pledged to capitalize on this strength to elevate the nation into a leading Product Nation by integrating design services with manufacturing.
Aligned with the principles of PM-Gatishakti, the BJP proposed the development of industrial cities along various industrial corridors to foster balanced regional development and promote industrialization in underdeveloped regions.
Furthermore, the party pledged to launch initiatives aimed at achieving balanced regional development across all districts of the country. Encouraging the promotion and export of One District One Product (ODOP) items will be a key focus under this initiative.

In the railway sector, the BJP promised to promote manufacturing, research, and development to position India as a global railway manufacturing hub. Similarly, in the aviation sector, the party aims to establish India as a prominent aviation manufacturing and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub by fostering a conducive ecosystem for commercial aircraft manufacturing.
To catalyze innovation in the pharmaceutical sector, the BJP committed to expanding Research Linked Incentive schemes to incentivize investment in research for new drugs, chemical entities, and biological entities.
With these comprehensive initiatives, the BJP envisions transforming India into a dynamic global manufacturing powerhouse, driving economic prosperity and positioning the nation as a leader in various industrial sectors on the global stage.
