Telangana legislator K Kavitha, who was named by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a court filing on Wednesday in connection with its investigation into the now-cancelled Delhi liquor policy, today took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that in any state where elections are scheduled, the ED arrives before the PM.
“Bachcha bachcha jaanta hai, Modi se pehle ED aata hai,” she remarked, challenging PM Modi to imprison her if he so desires.
Without getting into specifics of the charges, Ms Kavitha stated that ED and CBI cases against leaders of her party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), are “low level politics.”
“You cannot win elections with your central agencies,” she claimed, adding that the BJP had “destabilised nine states in eight years.”
She accused the BJP of plotting to destabilise the KCR-led state government and of “defaming” them through central agencies.
Ms Kavitha, on the other hand, stated that they “welcome” the central agencies and will work with them.
According to the central investigation agency, citing statements by arrested Gurugram businessman Amit Arora, K Kavitha, daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was a key member of the “South Group” that paid at least 100 crore in kickbacks to leaders of Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) via another arrested businessman Vijay Nair.
K Kavitha’s name appeared in an Enforcement Directorate remand report, citing remarks made by an arrested Gurugram businessman, Amit Arora.
According to the federal agency, Ms Kavitha was a prominent part of the “south group” that paid at least 100 crore in bribes to leaders of Delhi’s governing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) through another jailed businessman, Vijay Nair.
