The top ranked T20I batsman Suryakumar Yadav recently became just the second Indian and the first to amass 1000 runs in the shortest format in a year.

With Sunday’s match against Zimbabwe, he will score his 28th T20I in 2022, joining Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan on the elite list of T20I batsmen who have scored over 1000 runs in one calendar year.

In 2021, Rizwan scored 1326 runs in 29 matches, including 924 runs in 23 T20Is.

Surya’s excellent run with the bat has helped him in the T20I rankings as well. At the moment, he has an 863 rating point, making him the world’s top T20I batter.

Surya made his T20I debut for India against England in March last year, and has been on a tear ever since. A total of 1270 runs have been scored by him in 39 T20I matches for India.

Surya’s specialty in 2022 has been his way of scoring runs. With a batting average of 44.60 and a strike rate of 186.54, he has hammered 59 sixes and 93 fours so far this year. His six tally is the most by any batter in T20Is in a calendar year.

Zimbabwe needs 187 to win and their innings is currently in progress
