Earlier last week, the national capital received the complaint, Garima Gupta, an IAS officer, reportedly filed a complaint with the Delhi Police two days ago, stating that someone had intimidated and harassed her while pretending to be a government representative and attempted to obtain sensitive information about her department.
According to the filed FIR, the accused responded that he was using a SIM card with fake identification, making it impossible for the police to find him when Gupta approached him and warned him of a police report.
According to the FIR, this individual repeatedly switches his WhatsApp alias in an effort to fool the person he contacts by pretending to be someone else.
The IAS officer has further in her FIR urged the police to book her complaint under section 66D (Punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resource) of the Information Technology Act, along with sections 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation), 467
( Forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged [document or electronic record]), 473 (Making or possessing counterfeit seal, etc, with intent to commit forgery punishable otherwise), and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
However, according to the police, the incident has been first reported as a crime under sections 660, 84 C of the IT Act, and sections 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) and 509 of the IPC.
