"Party has nothing to do with it": Jharkhand Minister Banna Gupta on Income Text Raid

Gupta pointed out that Sahu hails from a significant business family, and a thorough investigation by the Income Tax authorities would reveal the facts surrounding the recovered funds.

In the wake of the Income Tax raids at premises linked to Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu, Jharkhand Health Minister and Congress leader Banna Gupta asserted that the party had no involvement in the matter. Gupta urged the central agency to clarify the source of the recovered money during a conversation with ANI on Sunday.

“Dheeraj Sahu belongs to a big family, which has business interests. They have been running their businesses for several years. I believe it is the Income Tax department that should come out with a detailed clarification on the source of the money,” stated Gupta, emphasizing that Sahu’s personal business had nothing to do with the party.

Gupta pointed out that Sahu hails from a significant business family, and a thorough investigation by the Income Tax authorities would reveal the facts surrounding the recovered funds. He stressed that the ongoing investigation would bring clarity, emphasizing that the situation did not involve bribe money.

Meanwhile, Income Tax sleuths continued their raids, this time targeting the premises of Boudh Distilleries Private Limited, linked to Sahu. The central agency, in its fifth day of crackdown, has recovered over Rs 200 crore in cash from various locations in Odisha and Jharkhand associated with Boudh Distilleries Private Limited (BDPL) and entities connected to it.

The raids have prompted Union Minister Smriti Irani to question the Congress over the source of the funds, urging the Gandhi family to disclose for whom MP Dheeraj Sahu was acting as an ‘ATM.’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to social media, emphasizing the need for accountability and the return of every penny looted from the people.

The ongoing investigation is expected to provide further insights into the source and utilization of the recovered funds.
