Sandeshkhali Violence Victims Seek President Murmu's Intervention in Meeting

Sandeshkhali Violence Victims Petition President Murmu for Intervention

President Droupadi Murmu met with eleven victims of violence, five of whom were women from Sandeshkhali. The victims asked for the president’s intervention “to safeguard the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community” in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. President Murmu received a memorandum from the victims, according to Dr. Partha Biswas, Director of the Center for SC/ST Support and Research. The victims presented the Indian President with a memorandum today regarding the Sandeshkhali issue. With deep sympathy, the President heard the entire story and expressed his sadness at this. Five women and six men make up the 11 victims of the incident who have come here today, Biswas said.

The Sandeskhali victims requested the President’s intervention, per the Memorandum, in order to protect the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community in Sandeskhali. “We hope you are well and in a good mood when you receive this letter. We ask that you act quickly to protect the vulnerable families in Sandeshkhali, West Bengal. According to the Memorandum, the victims are members of the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe community and have experienced extreme injustice and oppression. It went on to say that these families’ circumstances are extremely upsetting and call for prompt attention and assistance.

“Given your esteemed position as the guardian of justice and equality in our nation, we believe that your guidance and assistance are crucial in addressing this matter effectively,” it added.

“Your Excellency, your wisdom, and compassion are revered by millions across our nation. We are hopeful that your intervention will bring solace and relief to the oppressed people in Sandeshkhali and serve as a beacon of hope for marginalized communities across India,” it further read.

“Thank you for considering our request and given us the opportunity to express the plight and gloomy fact of our community in West Bengal. We eagerly await your response and guidance regarding such a grievous issue,” they added.
The women of Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district erupted in protests and came out on the streets, accusing expelled TMC MLA Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides of grave excesses and atrocities.

Shajahan and his associates were accused by several women on the island of coerced “land-grabs and sexual assaults.”
