The construction of infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh’s border regions is being carried out by the Union government as a means of retaliating against Chinese incursion on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
According to the project’s head engineer, Brig Raman Kumar, “Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is building and maintaining the road networks in the crucial border regions of western Assam and western Arunachal Pradesh.”
“National highways, single-lane and double-lane roads, as well as other kinds of roadways, are all present. To help in the socioeconomic growth of this region, we wish to connect even the most remote parts of the Tawang district ” he stated.
He said that two tunnels- the Sela tunnel and the Nechipu tunnel, are being built because wintertime snowfall makes it impossible for vehicles to move about.
He further added “The Sela tunnel lies 400 metres below Sela Pass and is currently under construction. People will be able to go via the tunnel once it is finished, even during the winter. Near the Nechipu pass, we are also constructing the Nechipu tunnel. Vehicle mobility for both the military and civilians would be much smoother once they are finished. It will improve the region’s infrastructure and tourism, as well.”
The government is aiming to improve mobile coverage in Tawang and other bordering regions of Arunachal Pradesh in addition to road connectivity and other infrastructure development projects.
Along the LAC, more mobile towers have been erected in Tawang and other border regions of the Tawang district.
