US, UK Embassies Prompt Officials Not to Visit Islamabad's Marriott Hotel

The British embassy issued identical instructions, following the US’s for its staff in Pakistan and with relation to the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.

The United States and United Kingdom embassies warned of a “potential attack” on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan, and forbade diplomats from travelling there. After receiving intelligence about a potential assault on Sunday, both governments issued security alerts and requested that employees increase their vigilance.

According to the US embassy, “the U.S. government is aware of intelligence that unidentified persons are allegedly planning to target Americans at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad at some point during the holidays.”

Additionally, the American embassy advised its staff not to leave the federal capital unless it was absolutely necessary or formal.

“The Marriott Hotel in Islamabad is off limits to all American employees as of right now, according to the Embassy in that city. Furthermore, the embassy is advising all mission staff to avoid unnecessary, unauthorised travel to Islamabad during the Christmas season due to the city’s Red Alert status, which cites security concerns while prohibiting all public gatherings “It was terrible.

Officials from the embassy were also instructed by the authorities to “exercise vigil at events, places of worship, and avoid situations with big crowds.”

The advice stated, “Carry identification and heed demands from law enforcement.”

The British embassy provided instructions that were identical to those the US issued for its employees in Pakistan.

“It is extremely possible that terrorists would attempt to carry out strikes in Pakistan. The major cities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi are all under serious threat from terrorism, kidnapping, and sectarian violence. Westerners in particular may be specifically targeted by foreigners, “In the advise, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK made a statement.

“Information about a potential attack on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad during the holiday season is known to the US authorities. During this time, you should avoid visiting the Marriott Hotel “According to the UK’s advice.

According to the statement, “We encourage British nationals in Islamabad to exercise more caution and minimise exposure to heavily crowded and unsafe locations that represent a higher risk.”
