Government sources claims AIIMS Delhi server attack originated from China

A senior government source stated today that Chinese hackers carried out the attack on the computer system of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi

A senior government source stated today that Chinese hackers carried out the attack on the computer system of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, adding that data from the five servers has already been successfully recovered.

According to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) source “The AIIMS Delhi server assault was carried out by the Chinese, according to the FIR. The hackers successfully penetrated five physical servers out of 100 (40 real and 60 virtual). The damage might have been lot worse, but it has already been mitigated. Data from the five servers has now been successfully recovered.”

AIIMS Delhi reported a server outage on November 23. Two analysts assigned to monitor the security of servers have also been suspended for suspected breaches in cyber security.

AIIMS officials indicated in a statement that the e-Hospital data has been restored. They stated “The eHospital data has been restored on the servers. Before services can be resumed, the network is being cleansed. Due to the volume of data and the vast number of servers/computers for medical services, the procedure is taking some time. Cyber security measures are being implemented.”

“All hospital services, including outpatient, in-patient, labs, and so on, continue to operate on a manual basis,” according to the statement.

Earlier this month, a special cell of the Delhi Police initiated an inquiry into the attack on the computer system at AIIMS Delhi.
