Army soldier was shot dead while fighting a robbery attempt in Bihar’s capital Patna early Thursday morning. The man, named as Bablu Kumar (34), was on his way to Patliputra railway station to board the New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express when the accident occurred on the Old Bypass route.

According to police, Bablu and his cousin Vijay Kumar were riding their bikes when armed miscreants stopped them and attempted to steal his bag. When he resisted, one of them shot him, and he fell on the road. His cousin ran away. After around 30 minutes, Vijay went to the scene and discovered Bablu lying in a pool of blood with his bag missing.

Amarnath Yadav, the soldier’s father, is alleged to be connected to deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav.

According to family members, the soldier arrived on a 45-day leave and enrolled his two daughters in classes 4 and 5 at Kendriya Vidalaya Kankarbagh on August 1.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manavjit Singh Dhillon told the media, “The jawan was traveling on Vijay’s bike as a pillion rider. The assailants intercepted them and asked the address of Patna junction and then shot Bablu.”

This was the second serious crime in the state capital within 12 hours. On Wednesday, a class 9 girl student was fired while returning from a coaching institute in the Indrapuri area.
