As India, transitions into its 75th year of Independence on 15 August 2022. The diamond jubilee of the nation is celebrated not just by the citizens of the country but also by tech giants like Google.

Google is curating a series of special initiatives to give its users an experience of marking the occasion privé to hundreds of thousands of Indians.

The focal point of Google’s celebrations is a new collection named “India ki Udaan” available on Google Arts and Culture. ‘India ki Udaan’ is a way to pay tribute to the country’s rich heritage and encompasses key milestones from the past 75 years for the citizens to revisit, experience, and be inspired by.

As the nation dives deep into the celebration, the tech giant also announced its collaboration with the Ministry of Culture which seeks to showcase the sacrifices, and contributions made by Indians since 1947 to support the central government’s year-long ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ program. 

The tech giant also announced that its renowned Doodle for Google contest for this year is themed on ‘In the next 25 years, my India will…’ and invites students of grades 1-10.

Google’s ‘India ki Udaan’ (Flight of India) is themed on the unwavering and resilient spirit of India over these past 75 years. Updated both in English and Hindi it allows the users to explore at least 120 illustrations and 21 stories created by 10 talented artists from various parts and institutions of the country – encompassing the Ministry of Tourism, Museum of Art & Photography, Heritage Directorate of the Indian Railways, the Indian Academy of Sciences and Dastkari Haat Samiti.

“India’s journey of the last 75 years is truly inspirational, made up of historic events and unforgettable individuals across all aspects of nation-building. In our journey of 15-plus years, we have had the privilege of solving India’s unique needs, developing innovations for millions of people here but also those all around the world. On this momentous occasion, we’re enchanted to join the Independence Day celebrations through specially curated online experiences and to deepen our partnership with the Ministry of Culture to share India’s accomplishments and additional inspire its proud peoples,” said Sanjay Gupta, VP & Country Head, Google India.

Mr. G Kishan Reddy, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Development of the North Eastern Region of India, said, “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture, and achievements. This Mahotsav is dedicated to the citizens of India who have not just been pivotal in bringing India thus far in its evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. 

Google Arts & Culture has featured India’s rich culture in a variety of ways over its 10 years in the country. It has exposed people all over the world to India’s cultural legacy by collaborating with more than 100 partners across India.
