Union Minister Anurag Thakur Targets Arvind Kejriwal Amid Sanjay Singh's Arrest

Arvind Kejriwal decried the arrest of Sanjay Singh, alleging it to be an expression of anxiety from the BJP in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

On Thursday, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur launched pointed remarks at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal, insinuating that those who were endorsed by Kejriwal for their integrity are currently behind bars.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur implied that Kejriwal might be the next individual under scrutiny, stating, “People are mocking Arvind Kejriwal. The strain on his face is noticeable. The Deputy CM is incarcerated, and so is the Health Minister. These are individuals who once took the forefront by championing ‘India Against Corruption,’ but are now entangled in corrupt practices.”

He further stated, “The ringleader is still at large. His turn will also come. The investigation is ongoing. All those individuals to whom Arvind Kejriwal vouched for integrity have been in jail for a year.”

In response, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal decried the arrest of Sanjay Singh, alleging it to be an expression of anxiety from the BJP in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal asserted, “The arrest of Sanjay Singh is completely unlawful. This displays Modi ji’s apprehension. They will detain many more opposition leaders until the elections.”

The apprehension of AAP MP Sanjay Singh drew vehement reactions from leaders within the I.N.D.I.A. alliance. Manoj Jha, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), stated, “It is not the ED that has detained Sanjay Singh; he has been detained by the BJP unit comprising ED-IT-CBI. Dark days have begun…In this era of authoritarianism, those who are scared will eventually fall. Even the dictators themselves are fearful. This fear will be met with resistance soon.”

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the bail plea of AAP leader Manish Sisodia in the matter of irregularities related to the liquor policy. During today’s hearing, the ED will respond to the Supreme Court’s query regarding why a political party has not been named as a defendant in the case, despite being alleged as the beneficiary.
