Indian Women's Squash Team Secures Bronze at 19th Asian Games

Chinappa triumphed over Ho Tze-Lok with a scoreline of 7-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, and 11-8.

In a thrilling semifinal showdown at the 19th Asian Games, the Indian women’s squash team, featuring Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna, and Anahat Singh, secured a well-deserved bronze medal despite a challenging defeat to Hong Kong, China, with a final score of 1-2.

The early setback for India came as Tanvi Khanna faced a formidable opponent in Sin Yuk Chan. The intense match, lasting just 22 minutes, saw Khanna valiantly battling but ultimately losing in three games, concluding with scores of 6-11, 7-11, and 3-11.

However, the resilient spirit of the Indian team was showcased by veteran player Joshna Chinappa. She demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, leveling the score at 1-1 against Hong Kong. Chinappa triumphed over Ho Tze-Lok with a scoreline of 7-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, and 11-8.

Chinappa’s incredible comeback began with a resounding 11-6 win in the fourth game, showcasing her composure and resolve as she sealed the match.

With the teams now tied, the pressure fell on the young shoulders of 15-year-old Anahat in the decisive match. Despite ultimately losing 0-3, Anahat displayed exceptional resilience, particularly in the first and third games. She started strongly, and although she faltered towards the end, she gave Lee Ka Yi a run for her money. The first game ended 8-11 in favor of Lee, who continued her dominance with an 11-7 win in the second game. Anahat’s valiant effort included a late-game surge where she attempted to score eight consecutive points, narrowly missing the third game, which concluded 10-12.

While the women’s team secured a well-deserved bronze, the Indian men’s squash team is set to embark on their semifinal clash against Malaysia later in the day, carrying the hopes of the nation.
