Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ommissioned the first indigenously designed and built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at Cochin Shipyard Limited here in Kochi — a significant step of the Central government towards self-reliance in the defence sector.
Russian ambassador to India also took part in this historic day. Denis Alipov said on Friday that India is experiencing a proud moment as the commissioning of the nation’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, has demonstrated how quickly the nation is progressing toward becoming an independent and significant global power.
Toking on twitter he stated, “Participated today in the commissioning of INS Vikrant by the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. India’s first swadeshi aircraft carrier. A glorious moment for the country and its people. Russia is proud to be part of it. Jai Vikrant! Shano varuna!”
Russia being a close aide to Indi was proud of India’s achievement under the leadership of PM Modi and praised India in its success and step ahead made in India campaign for future.
INS Vikrant is India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier bears the name of her historic forebear which had an important part to play in the war of 1971. It includes several pieces of domestically produced gear and equipment, as well as more than 100 Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSME) (MSMEs).
India now has two operational aircraft carriers, enhancing the country’s maritime security, with the commissioning of INS Vikrant.
The fourth and last phase of the INS Vikrant’s sea trials, which cost almost Rs 20,000 crore, were successfully completed last month. With the building of “Vikrant,” India has joined a small club of countries with the specialised capacity to design and construct an aircraft carrier domestically.
