Jaishankar,Holds Talks With Singapore's Minister Of Trade And Industry On Semiconductors And Space

Jaishankar engaged in constructive dialogues with prominent corporate leaders from Singapore, who conveyed positive feedback based on their investment experiences in India.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently convened a meeting with Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation. Among the topics deliberated were trade, semiconductors, space exploration, green energy initiatives, supply chain management, and defense collaborations. Jaishankar expressed optimism about advancing these discussions further during the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable.

 During his visit to Singapore, Jaishankar engaged with the Indian community, emphasizing the significance of their contributions. He commenced his visit by paying tribute to Subhash Chandra Bose and the valiant soldiers of the Indian National Army (INA). Reflecting on their unwavering patriotism and enduring spirit, Jaishankar highlighted the INA Marker in Singapore as a symbol of inspiration for future generations.

 Addressing an audience at the Institute of South Asian Studies of the National University of Singapore, Jaishankar delivered a speech titled ‘Why Bharat Matters’. He underscored the palpable momentum in India’s development trajectory, expressing confidence in its emergence as a major global economy in the years ahead. Jaishankar also recounted India’s proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the nation’s role in extending support to other countries through vaccine diplomacy.

 Furthermore, Jaishankar engaged in constructive dialogues with prominent corporate leaders from Singapore, who conveyed positive feedback based on their investment experiences in India. Expressing appreciation for their confidence in India’s growth prospects, Jaishankar expressed confidence that their commitment to expanding business operations in India would bolster bilateral economic ties.

 The historical ties between India and Singapore are deeply rooted in robust commercial, cultural, and people-to-people connections. India’s recognition of Singapore in 1965 marked the beginning of a longstanding relationship, characterized by shared values, economic opportunities, and mutual interests. With over 20 regular bilateral mechanisms, dialogues, and exercises, both nations have nurtured a multifaceted partnership encompassing various sectors.

India and Singapore exhibit significant convergence on a wide array of international issues, contributing actively to forums such as the East Asia Summit, G20, Commonwealth, Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium. This collaborative approach underscores the depth of their strategic engagement and underscores their commitment to fostering regional stability and prosperity.
