Weather Update Today LIVE Updates: Heavy rain lashes Delhi-NCR; IMD Issues Rain Alert
People of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to a rainy morning on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, as the heavy rain pounded some parts of the city. The rains came as a relief in the hot, humid conditions that had prevailed over the past week, although they caused some waterlogging in the low-lying areas and made traffic movement sluggish on major roads. Images across the capital depict wet streets, umbrellas on the sides of the road, as well as cars and vehicles that are pushing through waterlogged areas.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert in the Delhi-NCR area, and the rain in the capital Delhi is expected to be moderate to heavy rain in Delhi along with thunderstorms throughout the day. According to the officials, this active monsoon weather condition is due to the favourable weather patterns, which are likely to result in intermittent showers taking place in the next 24-48 hours. Commuters have been asked to keep this in mind when they travel, and due to the peak hours of downpour, the visibility might not be good. Air and rail transportation services are under close observation to be time-efficient.
Even as the rains have reduced the daytime temperature by a few degrees, giving respite to the sticky summer heat, the intensity of the showers is also proving to be a problem. There was waterlogging witnessed in places such as Minto Road, ITO, Lajpat Nagar, and Noida Sector 18, which brought traffic to a snail’s pace. Civic officials have dispatched gangs to clear blocked sewers and to control waterlogging. The citizens are cautioned to be indoors during the heavy moments, monitor weather reports, and practice electrical safety in rain-prone areas.
