Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was released from Patiala jail, approximately 10 months after he was sentenced to one-year jail by Supreme Court in a three decades old road rage case.

Following his release from Patiala’s central jail in connection with a 1988 road rage case, Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu said, ”there was no democracy in Punjab and a conspiracy was being planned to bring President’s rule to the state.” Minorities were also targeted, he said.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was warmly welcomed by his supporters after release from Patiala jail after almost 10 months.

Slamming the Centre, Sidhu said “democracy is in chains and that institutions have turned slaves. ”Sidhu accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of “giving false hopes” to the people of Punjab. Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu heaped praises on Rahul Gandhi, & hits out at Centre after walking out of Patiala Central Jail.

On being asked about the law and order situation in Punjab following the ongoing police hunt for Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh, the Congress leader said he will speak about the issue at the home of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Ahead of his release, hundreds of his supporters gathered outside the prison to welcome him. According to his lawyer, Sidhu is being released earlier than anticipated due to good conduct, news agency PTI reported.
