Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his condolences for the deaths caused by a traffic accident in the Poonch region of Jammu and Kashmir and stated that the deceased’s surviving relatives would receive Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.


A crash involving a minibus on its way from Sawjian to Mandi resulted in at least 11 fatalities and 26 injuries. The Indian Army is now conducting the rescue effort. “It’s tragic that so many people died in an accident in Poonch. My heart goes out to everyone who lost a dear one. Wishing the injured a quick recovery.

According to a tweet from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), each deceased person’s next of kin will receive Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF, while injured people would receive Rs 50,000.


Prior to this, President Droupadi Murmu also expressed his sorrow and described the sad car accident in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, as “very painful.” He also wished the injured people a swift recovery.


“The catastrophic road accident that claimed lives in Sawjian, Poonch, is extremely upsetting. The grieving families are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish the injured a quick recovery, Rashtrapati Bhavan wrote in a tweet.

The families of the victims of the tragedy and those who were injured earlier in the day received comfort from J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also conveyed his condolences.


Sinha posted on Twitter, saying, “We are saddened by the deaths caused by a car accident in Sawjian, Poonch. Condolences to the families of the deceased. May those who were hurt quickly heal.”


Additionally, he promised ex-gratia payments of Rs. 5 lakh to the deceased’s heirs and Rs. 1 lakh to the 26 injured individuals who were transported to the Mandi hospital.


Additionally, Sinha has ordered the police and civil officials to give the injured people the best care possible.
