Spine Chilling Cold, Dense Fog Inundates North India

Dense to very dense fog was observed over Punjab, Haryana, northwest Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar on Friday morning for the second consecutive morning.

The IMD reports that Friday morning brought dense fog, a partly cloudy sky, and temperatures that dropped to below 8 degrees Celcius in most areas of the Delhi-NCR region. Palam reported a minimum temperature of 7.9 degrees Celsius, whereas Lodhi Road, Gurgaon, Ayanagar, Ridge, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Jafarpur, Najafgarh, and Noida all recorded lower minimum temperatures. The minimum temperatures in Pitampura, Sports Complex, and Mayur Vihar were 10, 10, and 8.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Fog covered Punjab’s Bathinda for the fourth day in a row, with visibility falling below 10 metres on Friday morning.

But according to IMD, cold conditions are likely to prevail in the aforementioned zones for the next two days.

“Dense to Very Dense Fog conditions likely to continue over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh during next 48 hours and diminish in intensity and spread subsequently,” the IMD wrote on Twitter.

Notably, 21 trains are reportedly running several hours late on Friday as a result of poor visibility brought on by heavy fog.

The Darbhanga-New Delhi Special, the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, the Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi Express, and the Malda Twon-Delhi Jn. Farakka Express are operating behind schedule, according to CPRO Northern Railway.
