China will hold a huge military parade in Beijing next month to mark 80 years since the end of World War II. The event will also showcase new Chinese weapons, many of which will be shown in public for the first time, state media reported.
The parade will feature hundreds of aircraft from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including fighter jets and bombers, along with ground troops using the latest military technology. At a press briefing on Wednesday, Chinese military officials said the display will cover air, land, and sea forces.
‘Fourth Generation’ Weapons to be Showcased in the Parade by China
According to the official Xinhua news agency, the parade will be organized to reflect real combat conditions, with joint units demonstrating how different forces would operate together. China’s Global Times said the parade will highlight advanced “fourth-generation” equipment such as modern tanks, carrier-based aircraft, and new fighter jets. All of the weapons and vehicles on show will be domestically made and already in active service, the paper added.
This will be the second major parade since 2015 marking Japan’s surrender in 1945, which ended World War II in Asia. The event will take place on September 3 in Tiananmen Square.
Latest Drones, Advanced Tanks and Many More Weapons!
Security analysts and foreign military attaches told Reuters they expect China to unveil new equipment, such as trucks designed to disable drones, advanced tanks, and early warning aircraft to defend China’s growing fleet of aircraft carriers. Western countries, especially the United States and its allies, will watch closely to see China’s latest missile systems, particularly its anti-ship and hypersonic weapons.
The “Victory Day” parade will include 45 groups of troops and last about 70 minutes. President Xi Jinping will review the forces, joined by foreign leaders and dignitaries. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who also attended the 2015 parade, is expected to be among the guests.
Meanwhile, security in Beijing has been tightened ahead of the event. Since early August, authorities have conducted rehearsals, set up checkpoints, rerouted traffic, and closed some malls and office buildings to ensure the parade goes smoothly.
