Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera has become a new entrant in a lot of the recent disasters at the box office. Amid the content rush on the OTT platforms, it is getting even more difficult to entice the audience to the theatres.

OTT has given the audience an easy outlet of entertainment right at their palms, and Bollywood is finding it difficult to break the curse of disaster at the box office.

Once ruled like a king, the Hindi cinema is facing disenchantment of the audience. At the same time, South Indian cinema is on a streak with movies like Pusha, KGF: Chapter 2, and RRR.
Shamshera is facing hatred amongst the community on social media, calling the movie Ranbir Kapoor’s failure.

The movie is set in 1871, the year when the British, officially brought it to the law books learning that they can use India’s existing oppressive and unfair Hindu cast system to their advantage. Criminal tribes act, where hundreds of low castes were given the status of burglars, and dacoit by birth.

Ranbir Kapoor’s character is the second generation of the Khameran tribe. He is set on an unconventional trip with even more unconventional accomplices, which only he can achieve. He realizes that he is called to history, which runs in his family history, which he knows very little about, and is meant for the freedom of the tribe from the British. The plot stretches so horizontally that it loses its way back to the audience.

Despite all the criticism the lead’s wife Alia Bhatt urged the audience to be easy on the former. While Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a police officer places his faith in time and that the movie will find its audience. The actor shared a heartfelt note on his social media handles, with the hashtag Shamshera is ours.

The movie is directed by Karan Malhotra and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor, and Sanjay Dutt.
