Following the arrest of two Imams from Goalpara area, Assam police on Thursday gained access to some crucial information concerning Al-Qaeda’s strategy.
Six Bangladeshi terrorists infiltrated Assam a few years ago, according to a top Assam police officer, and they targeted residents of Char regions (the sandbars or small sandy islands) and other isolated locations where the Muslim minority predominates.
According to intelligence obtained by Assam police, Bangladeshi terrorists affiliated with AQIS/ABT had recruited and brainwashed a large number of persons in the state.
Assam police have detained one of the six Bangladeshi terrorists affiliated to AQIS/ABT; the other five are still at large, and the police are doing everything they can to find them.
Abdus Subhan, imam of the Tinkunia Shantipur Mosque under Mornoi police station, and Jalaluddin Sheikh, imam of the Tilapara Natun Mosque under Matia police station in Goalpara district were the two imams who had previously been detained by Goalpara district police and were linked to both Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in the lower Assam district
Two of the six terrorists from Bangladesh had resided in the Char parts of the Goalpara district for the last two to three years.
The linkages between the Jihadi suspects arrested in Goalpara three days earlier and the Barpeta and Morigaon modules of AQIS/ABT have been actively discovered, according to VV Rakesh Reddy, Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Goalpara district.
