As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a grand roadshow in Varanasi on Saturday. Following the roadshow, he, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, visited the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and offered prayers there. Visuals captured the rituals performed at the sacred shrine. His attire was adorned by the people and many called it giving goosebumps.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the party and its workers for their unwavering faith in him.

Taking to X platform, he stated his anticipation of serving the people of Varanasi for the third term. “I thank the @BJP4India leadership and extend my respects to the countless selfless Party Karyakartas for their steadfast belief in me,” he said. “I eagerly look forward to serving my sisters and brothers in Kashi once again.”

PM Modi further emphasized the continuity of efforts by the central government over the past decade, asserting that progress across various sectors and the betterment of Kashi will persist with increased vigor. “I also express my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kashi for their blessings, which I deeply value,” he added.

In another post on X, PM Modi highlighted his party’s campaign based on their track record of good governance and ensuring inclusive progress, particularly benefiting the underprivileged.

The BJP announced its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on Saturday, following an extensive meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This marks PM Modi’s third candidacy from the Varanasi constituency. He secured victory in 2014 against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and in 2019 against the Samajwadi Party’s Shalini Yadav and Congress leader Ajay Rai. Varanasi has historically been a BJP stronghold, consistently retained by the party since 1991, except in 2004 when the Congress’s Rajesh Kumar Mishra emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Arun Goel tendered his resignation ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, which has been accepted by the President. Goel had assumed the role of Election Commissioner (EC) of India on November 21, 2022. The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in April-May this year.
