The situation in Sandeshkhali escalated as protesters clashed with police and physically assaulted Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Ajit Maity. Maity, an MLA from Pingla Assembly constituency in Paschim Medinipur, was attacked by villagers who broke into his house and beat him with slippers in the Bermajur area of Sandeshkhali.

The incident, which unfolded in the presence of media crews, saw protesters venting their anger over alleged injustices and land grabs. Villagers also tried to block police vehicles from passing through the area.

According to one protester, the confrontation began when they attempted to speak with the police about the detention of individuals without charge. The situation escalated when a police vehicle allegedly ran over a woman’s foot, further enraging the crowd.

Another protester expressed outrage over the perceived lack of law and order, accusing the police of attempting to harm a girl. The protester claimed that if the public had not intervened, the girl could have been seriously injured or killed.

The unrest in Sandeshkhali has been ongoing, with protesters alleging that Sheikh Shahjahan and Sirajuddin have illegally confiscated their land. The protesters also accused the police of siding with the oppressors and committing atrocities against the people.

In response to the situation, West Bengal BJP Mahila Morcha president Falguni Patra criticized the state government, claiming that women, students, and others are not safe in West Bengal and are being deprived of their land and dignity.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee was detained by police while en route to Sandeshkhali. Chatterjee criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not addressing the situation and emphasized the need to support the women in Sandeshkhali.

Amidst the chaos, the BJP clarified that Sabyasachi Ghosh, who was arrested on charges of running a prostitution racket in Howrah, is not associated with the party.

The women protesters in Sandeshkhali are seeking justice against alleged atrocities committed by TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates. Despite their efforts, Shahjahan remains at large, evading both state police and central agencies.
