The White House officially launched a TikTok account on Tuesday, seeking to leverage the platform’s more than 150 million US users to communicate the messages of President Donald Trump.
TikTok’s Role in Trump’s 2024 Campaign
Trump has expressed a particular fondness for the popular short-video app, crediting it with helping him secure support among young voters during his victory over Democrat Kamala Harris in the November 2024 presidential election.
However, past intelligence assessments have raised concerns that TikTok’s owners may be influenced by the Chinese government, with the potential to affect American audiences.
The launch comes amid ongoing discussions by Trump about TikTok’s Chinese ownership and the potential sale of the platform. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, had initially faced a deadline to sell the platform earlier this year, though that deadline was later extended.

Why is White House Launching a TikTok Account?
“The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said as the account went live.
“President Trump’s message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign, and we’re excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before,” she added.
The TikTok account, @whitehouse, began operation Tuesday evening. A White House official said the account’s primary aim is to communicate the president’s policies directly to the public.

The first post on the new account featured a 27-second compilation of President Trump meeting people, set to dramatic music. In the video, Trump says:
“Every day I wake up determined to deliver a better life for the people all across this nation. I am your voice.”
