Army’s 19 Division Boosts Youth Engagement with IPL-Style Cricket Tournament in Kashmir

Srinagar August 30: The Indian Army’s 19 Infantry Division successfully concluded the Chinar Premier League (CPL) 2025 with a grand closing ceremony at Gen Bipin Rawat Stadium, Baramulla. This year’s tournament featured 64 teams 32 from Baramulla and 32 from other districts making it one of the most competitive cricket events in the region. The final match saw Ahmed Cricket Club (Sultan Warrior Summerbugh) Srinagar defeat MLA Gym Khana, Budgam by seven wickets to clinch the CPL 2025 Trophy. Waseem Raza was named Man of the Series for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

The event was graced by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Dagger Division as the Chief Guest, along with other dignitaries from Baramulla. The winning team received a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000. The CPL 2025 served as a platform for youth engagement and community bonding, promoting sportsmanship and camaraderie across the Kashmir Valley.  

In addition to the Chinar Premier League (CPL) 2025, the Indian Army has been actively organizing various sports initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir to engage and empower the youth. These events aim to foster community spirit, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen the bond between the Army and local communities. Earlier In Baramulla, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the civil administration and sports bodies, organized ‘Varmul Gindo 2025,’ a mega sports festival. This initiative aims to steer youth away from drug addiction by promoting sports and cultural activities. 

The Chinar Open Winter Games 2025, organized by the Pir Panjal Brigade of the Dagger Division, concluded successfully in Gulmarg. The event celebrated sportsmanship and community spirit, providing a platform for youth to engage in winter sports. The Indian Army emerged as the top performer at the Khelo India Winter Games 2025, leading the medal tally with seven golds, five silvers, and six bronzes. The event, held in Gulmarg, showcased the Army’s commitment to promoting sports in the region. These initiatives reflect the Indian Army’s dedication to fostering a positive environment for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, encouraging them to participate in sports and community-building activities.
