Alycia Parks pulled off a major upset at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, defeating top-seeded Emma Navarro 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in an all-American second-round clash. After dropping the first set, Parks shifted momentum by securing a crucial service break early in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. She then dominated the final set, breaking Navarro’s serve three times in a row to pull away comfortably. Parks will now face Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova, who came back from a set down to upset seventh-seeded Leylah Fernandez 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, setting up an intriguing next-round matchup.

In other Monterrey action, third-seeded Diana Shnaider won a tight all-Russian battle against Kamilla Rakhimova 7-6(3), 6-1, showing her resilience in the opening set before cruising in the second. Fifth-seeded Elise Mertens sailed past Donna Vekic 6-3, 6-3, while sixth seed Linda Noskova edged Germany’s Tatjana Maria 6-3, 6-2. Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic defeated Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-0. Second seed Ekaterina Alexandrova closed the night with a solid 6-4, 6-3 win over Ajla Tomljanovic.

Meanwhile, in Cleveland, top seed Liudmila Samsonova overcame eight double faults but still managed a 6-2, 6-4 victory against China’s Yafan Wang. Samsonova, ranked 19th globally, has recovered from early exits in previous tournaments and looks to build momentum. Romania’s Sorana Cirstea also impressed with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory over Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann, wrapping up the match in just over an hour.
