A roof collapse at Piplodi Primary School in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district killed at least four children on Friday. The incident occurred suddenly while classes were in session. Authorities immediately launched rescue efforts to pull trapped children out from under the debris. The rescue operation involved school staff, villagers, and local officials. According to the police, 17 other children sustained injuries. The critically injured have been taken to advanced medical facilities. Jhalawar Collector and Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Budania reached the site as rescue and relief work continued.
Injured Children Shifted to Hospitals, Officials Begin Investigation
Police said the school roof collapsed without warning, leaving children no time to react. Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar confirmed the death of four children and injuries to 17 others. “Ten students have been referred to Jhalawar, with three to four in critical condition,” he said. Local health teams shifted the injured to Manohar Thana CSC. Two children in critical condition were later transferred to a specialised centre, while six others are undergoing treatment at SRG Hospital. Officials launched a preliminary inquiry to determine the cause of the collapse and have begun collecting statements from witnesses and school staff.
Education Minister Orders High-Level Probe Into School Collapse
Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar expressed sorrow over the tragedy and ordered an immediate high-level investigation. He assured all possible support to affected families. “A very unfortunate incident occurred in Piplodi village, where the roof of a school collapsed. I have instructed the district collector and education officers to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. Officials are already on the ground,” Dilawar said. He directed the administration to prioritise medical care for the injured children and ensure their families receive full assistance. The state government also initiated a structural safety audit of other schools in the region.
Local Police and Villagers Rescue Children From Rubble
Teachers and local villagers rushed to the site after hearing cries for help from inside the collapsed building. They worked with police to clear debris and pull children out. Station House Officer Vijendra Singh of Dangipura police station said the school is an upper primary institution. At the time of the collapse, 27 students were present in the classroom. Circle Inspector Nandkishore from Manoharthana police station confirmed that emergency responders reached the site quickly. Rescue teams used stretchers, bedsheets, and local tools to move injured children while waiting for ambulances and medical teams to arrive from nearby hospitals.
