This September, a whole new wave of major theatrical and streaming releases comes roaring through from September 29 to October 5, 2025, then, as October opens up in the form of a curtain. This week teems with a wide selection of thrillers, real-life crime dramas, and heart-touching comedies all under one roof, ensuring to cater to the taste buds of many-their delectation being on platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar.

Leading the international line-up is the true-crime series Monster: The Ed Gein Story on Netflix – a dark dive into history on Hollywood’s part, while the heist thriller Steve shows star power on the streaming wars. On the Indian side, Madharaasi, a Tamil action film, is expected to have a thrilling Prime Video debut, thus ensuring a full agenda for cine-philes and binge-watchers as they march into the newborn month. The theatrical slate continues to have a mix of limited re-releases and new genre fare, keeping the multiplexes busy.

OTT Release Highlights: Global & Regional Content

The biggest streaming platforms are currently discovering who will win between them in light of a crowded field of blockbuster shows and films. Netflix is not only upping its ante to go for crime content but also chillingly undertaking another biographical drama with the launch of Monster: The Ed Gein Story on October 3. This will be the third miniseries in the Monster anthology, focusing on one of the most infamous killers in America, with Charlie Hunnam cast in the lead role.

At the same time, the platform will be showing The Sisters Grimm, an animated fantasy series set in the future. In turn, Prime Video brings its action-thriller Madharaasi on October 1 for the regional audience with popular actor Sivakarthikeyan, directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Meanwhile, another significant release from an international destination will be the intense survival drama thriller such as The Lost Bus, which features the award-winning actors Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, based on the historical and devastating Camp Fire in the state of California.

Theatrical Releases: Drama and Re-releases

Kantara: Chapter 1 A prequel exploring traditional folklore and spiritual themes, releasing in theatres on October 2. While the streaming spaces dominate, the theatrical landscape swings back-and-forth between original drama and nostalgia re-releases. Just this past week, new drama buzz was generated from Steve- about a headmaster struggling to save his reform school- which promises a limited theatrical release. This week also marks the continuation of some classic films in specific formats, including re-releases in IMAX. 

In addition, the fans of superhero nostalgia would be entertained by the prolonged Fathom Event ramble over the original Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, with Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2.1, and Spider-Man 3 showing in part on select days, allowing attendees to see again these classics on the big screen as October begins.
