Anita Advani Claims Secret Marriage to Rajesh Khanna: “He Said I Was His Responsibility”
But the stories surrounding his personal life still refuse to fade. Now, Anita Advani, who once called herself his companion, is bringing old news back yet again, she says they were secretly married.
It was not a huge celebration, as said by Anita Advani. She says it happened at home, quietly, just the two of them. “He put a mangal sutra around my neck, applied sindoor in my hair, and said, ‘From today, you are my responsibility.’” For her, that moment was everything. “It wasn’t just love,” she says. “We were husband and wife in every sense that mattered.”
Anita Advani Opens Up on Life with Rajesh Khanna, Says She Was Shut Out After His Death
Anita’s connection to Rajesh Khanna goes way back. She says she met him even before he married Dimple Kapadia in 1973. Over the years, their bond grew stronger. By the 2000s, they were living together in his iconic bungalow, Aashirwad. “I cooked for him, prayed for him, fought with him, and loved him,” she says. “He wasn’t just a superstar to me. He was home.”
But when he died in July 2012, Anita says she was out completely. It was one of the most traumatising times of her life, others completely shut her down, she was not even allowed to enter the funeral, there were bouncers all around.
She later took legal action, hoping to be recognized as his partner, but the courts didn’t side with her. Khanna’s family, Dimple, Twinkle, Rinke, have denied her claims all along. To them, Anita was never more than an acquaintance.
Still, she insists what they had was real. “I didn’t want his money. I wanted acknowledgement. I wanted to grieve for him like a wife, not a stranger.”
Maybe we’ll never know the full truth. But Anita’s story is a reminder that behind the legend was a man, and behind that man, maybe, a woman who still carries the weight of being erased.
