Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday reportedly refused to wear a headgear offered to him during an event of the madrasa board. As the news of the incident came out, the opposition raised questions about his ‘secular credentials’.

Mr Kumar’s action has stirred a political row ahead of the Bihar elections, as he has previously been seen wearing a skull cap at Iftar parties and Islamic events over the years.

Incident Happened During Centenary Celebrations Of Madrasa Education Board

The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be held in October or November this year.

The incident happened during the centenary celebrations of the state madrasa education board in Patna.

In a short while, the video went viral. In the video, a member of the board is initially seen attempting to put the Muslim cap on Nitish’s head, but he refuses and takes it in his hand.

Political pundits assume the recent development of utter importance, as it comes just months ahead of the Assembly elections. In Bihar, Muslims comprise about 18% of the population.

In the past, Mr Kumar has seen wearing a traditional skull cap at Iftar events. As per reports, Nitish did not wear such a cap during Iftar parties after rejoining the NDA camp last year.

Five Muslim JD(U) Leaders Quit The Party Ahead Of Assembly Polls

In recent months, at least five Muslim JD(U) leaders have quit the party, which has reportedly compounded the JD(U)’s troubles after it gave support to the SIR in the state.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been criticising the special intensive revision in Bihar, being conducted by the Election Commission of India. He embarked on the Voter Adhikar Yatra in the state to expose the alleged vote theft.
