The wrestling world is still buzzing after Monday night when Naomi and Jimmy Uso revealed that they are expecting their first child. The happy news comes in a historic year of Naomi, who introduced a new heel character, had a singles match at WrestleMania, won the Money in the Bank, and won the Women World Championship.
Naomi’s Journey Highlights WWE Motherhood Challenges
Naomi made her announcement bittersweet because her momentum will now be halted at least nine months and some change as she humorously said on Raw. She told Stephanie McMahon that she used to believe she could not have a child because of previous health issues, so this is even more special to her and her family.
Her narrative throws light on how WWE women are dealing with their own special challenges of trying to pursue their career goals as well as motherhood. The resignation decision is not simple, especially when it is temporary. Not too many people can understand sacrifice as much as Becky Lynch who at WrestleMania 36 vacated her Raw Women Champion title after discovering she was pregnant with her daughter Roux.
Becky Lynch Reflects on Family and Wrestling Career
Over five years after, Lynch is going through another career boom. She is the current Women Intercontinental champion and is still giving some of her best in-ring work. She is also making a transition into Hollywood with Happy Gilmore 2, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, and her new show Movers.
This week, Lynch appeared as a guest on the Cody Rhodes show What Do You Wanna Talk About? where the prospect of a second child was broached. The Man admitted that she wants to have a second child, but it is difficult to make it fit her schedule.
“I’m really loving wrestling, I’m loving the acting roles that I’m getting. I kind of feel like momentum is on my side. And eventually, I would love another one. We’ve got to kind of figure that out.”
Daughter Roux Wants a Sibling
Lynch says her daughter Roux (who turns five this year) has been asking her parents repeatedly to get a sibling. The champion explains the extent to which those talks affect her emotionally, particularly when Roux makes emotional appeals.
“It’s like the worst thing she could possibly say to me. She’s like, when you’re done working, when you make enough money, then can I have my little brother?”
Becky has been back in WWE since WrestleMania 41 in April and had been working full time since. She is also in the middle of shooting the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy in the midst of her wrestling.
Becky Lynch Striving to Find Balance
Every time Roux asks about a little brother, Lynch says it is like a gut check. Yet she is hopeful that she will be able to find a way so that she can balance motherhood with her blossoming career in WWE and Hollywood.
“I love going out and having nights like (WWE Evolution). I love it. Just shot the pilot for Movers. I loved every second of that. And then I love coming home, looking after my little girl. But growing the family would be also amazing.”
The frankness in Lynch is typical of the balancing act many WWE women have to perform. With her career at such a high level, her urge to have more children proves that even The Man has to deal with personal aspirations and struggles in the face of professional success.
