You might have seen on Instagram reels and on other social media platforms regarding a new offering from NASA. The space agency is now letting you see your name spelled out in giant letters.

NASA offers a free interactive tool which allows users to type their name into a search bar and see it spelled out in natural formations on planet Earth as viewed from outer space, courtesy of data from NASA’s Landsat satellites.

The space agency’s website says “With each new launch, Landsat’s decades-long data record becomes even more valuable. As the longest continuous space-based record of Earth’s surface, Landsat offers a unique resource to scientists studying long-term changes. Researchers have used Landsat’s archive to study how cities have grown, coastlines have shifted, crop cycles have changed, and forests have transformed since the 1970s”

How To Get Your Name in Landsat

If you want to see your name, here are simple steps through which you can see your name through NASA’s Landsat satellite.

  • Step 1: visit the “Your Name in Landsat”, interactive tool on NASA’s website

  • Step 2: Type your name into the text box which says, “enter a name” snd press enter

  • Step 3: The website will generate an image portraying your name and will provide the location where they are found in longitude, latitude, and by name.

NASA’s interactive tool uses landsat image of the NASA Earth Observatory, NASA Worldview, USGS Earth Explorer, and ESA Sentinel Hub.

What is Landsat Image ?

Landsat images are pictures of Earth’s surface captured by satellites from outer space. This is part of an initiative managed by NASA and the US Geological Survey. The data goes back over 5 decades, and it is used by scientists, land managers, planners, and policymakers on issues regarding environment and natural resources as per NASA.

About NASA, its recent achievement and upcoming mission

The National Aeronautics and space Administration, or NASA is a federal government agency based in Washington D.C and its primarily focus on outer space research and exploration.

The agency was established on 29th July 1958 after the collapse of Committee for Aeronautics which was active from 1915 to 1958. The space research agency is one of its most active eras, marked by a return to human deep-space exploration and revolutionary deep-space observations.

The recent flagship program which NASA has achieved is the Artemis Program. The space program establishes a sustainable presence on the Moon and prepares for future human mission to Mars.

Through the competition of the Artemis II mission the agency has hit a historical milestone; the mission carried four astronauts, Commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen.

This was the first crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit since 1972, and the crew set a new record for the farthest human spaceflight, reaching a distance of around 4,06,771 Km from the Earth.

The agency is also working on a major Planetary exploration project, Dragonfly which is mission to Titan. As of April 2026, the Dragonfly rotorcraft is in its final assembly and testing phase. The launch of the mission is targeted for 2028.
