Over 3.4 million foreign visitors visited Japan in July, up 4.4 per cent from the same month last year, according to government data released on Wednesday.

The Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO) said July marked a record high for inbound arrivals, with 15 markets, including the United States, France, and Indonesia, posting their highest-ever figures for the month.

The surge highlights Japan’s growing appeal as a global travel destination, driven by international interest in its culture, food, and regional attractions, Kyodo News reported.

Tourism Strategy

The JNTO said it will continue promoting “strategic inbound tourism” by closely analysing market trends and tailoring campaigns to different regions.

Under its three-year plan through fiscal 2025, the Japanese government aims to boost average travel spending per visitor to 200,000 yen (USD 1,355) and extend the average overnight stay in regional areas to two nights. In fiscal 2019, before the pandemic, visitors spent an average of 159,000 yen and stayed 1.4 nights in regional destinations. (Inputs from ANI)
