Stocks to Watch – August 20, 2025: Markets May Open Weak as Global Sentiments Sours

Indian stock markets are set for a muted start today, with GIFT Nifty down 67 points, trading around 24,967. The mood is cautious as global signals remain mixed and investors brace for key central bank cues.

The big event on everyone’s radar? The US Federal Reserve’s Jackson Hole symposium starting tomorrow. Traders are waiting to hear from Fed Chair Jerome Powell, will he hint at rate hikes or take a softer stance?

Wall Street didn’t offer much comfort overnight. The Dow closed flat, while the S&P 500 fell 0.59% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq slid 1.46%.

Asian markets aren’t helping either. China kept its lending rates unchanged, but its markets stayed flat. Japan’s Nikkei dropped 1.58% after exports saw their sharpest fall in over four years. South Korea’s Kospi also slipped over 2%.
