Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, faced a major service outage on Monday, affecting users in multiple countries. According to a notice on its website, Starlink acknowledged the disruption and said its team was investigating the issue.

Downdetector had received nearly 40,000 outage reports. About 60% of users reported problems with internet connectivity, 39% said the service was completely down, and 1% complained of poor performance.

Users in various regions, including the United States and parts of South America, experienced interruptions. In the US, states such as Virginia, Louisiana, Indiana, and Washington reported issues, while international reports came in from countries including Colombia. Some users experienced short interruptions of a few minutes, while others faced outages lasting more than 20 minutes. A few people said their connections were restored after brief disruptions.

Starlink is a satellite internet network developed by SpaceX, designed to provide high-speed internet access in remote and underserved areas. The system relies on a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites, allowing users to connect to the internet from almost anywhere in the world.

Starlink’s service outages are particularly significant because many rely on the network for work, education, and communication in areas where traditional internet options are limited. As of now, the company has not provided a timeline for restoring full service or details on the cause of the disruption.
