The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has categorically rejected Bangladesh interim adviser Muhammad Yunus-led government’s claims of “political offficies” of the Awami League being run in India, saying New Delhi does not allow political activities against other countries to be carried out from its soil.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the MEA called the accusations “misplaced” and reaffirmed New Delhi’s commitment to non-interference in other countries’ political affairs.
“The Government of India is not aware of any anti-Bangladesh activities by purported members of the Awami League in India or of any action that is contrary to Indian law,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, adding, “The Government does not allow political activities against other countries to be carried out from Indian soil.”
“The Press Statement by the Interim Government of Bangladesh is thus misplaced,” the MEA further said.
India Emphasises Support for Free and Fair Elections
The ministry also reiterated the Centre’s stance on Bangladesh’s domestic political process.
“India reiterates its expectation that free, fair and inclusive elections will be held at the earliest in Bangladesh to ascertain the will and mandate of the people,” the statement added.
