After a highly anticipated UFC debut ended in a devastating knockout, Aaron Pico has spoken publicly for the first time, choosing to focus on the road ahead rather than dwell on defeat. The former Bellator standout suffered a brutal spinning back elbow loss to Lerone Murphy in the co-main event of UFC 319, but remains determined to bounce back stronger.
A Harsh Debut, But Not the End
Despite entering the fight as the betting favorite, Pico struggled against the experienced Murphy. While he had a few solid moments, the fight ended with a highlight-reel knockout that left fans stunned. Posting to Instagram the next day, Pico shared a message of gratitude and resilience:
“Last night wasn’t my night, that’s the fight game,” he wrote. “I’m grateful for my team, my family, and everyone who continues to support me. Wins and losses both teach lessons and I’ll come back sharper, stronger, and better prepared.”
A Familiar Start for the Former Phenom
This isn’t the first time Pico has faced a rocky beginning. His professional debut at Bellator 180 in 2017 also ended in disappointment submitted in just 24 seconds. Yet, over the next few years, the now 28-year-old turned his career around with a 13-4 record, becoming one of Bellator’s most dangerous featherweights.
Road to Redemption Begins Again
Had Pico pulled off a win against Murphy, he may have been on a fast track to a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski. Instead, he now faces another uphill battle to prove he belongs among the UFC’s elite. Still, Pico’s message is clear: this setback is just another chapter, not the final one. “My story is not over,” he wrote and in MMA, comebacks are often what define legacies.
