Security forces and Manipur Police have intensified their counter-insurgency and anti-crime operations across the state, resulting in multiple arrests of militant cadres, drug smugglers, and offenders over the past two days.
Arrests of KCP Cadres
On August 19, security forces arrested a self-styled Corporal of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Federal Line), identified as Lourembam Suraj Singh (26) alias Lamjingba, from his residence in Wangkhei Angom Leikai under Porompat Police Station, Imphal East. He was involved in extortion activities in the valley areas. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from him.
Earlier, on August 18, police arrested another active KCP (MFL) cadre, Sapam Surendra Meitei (27) alias Eronbi alias Naocha alias Thoinaoba, from the vicinity of Minuthong bridge in Imphal West. He was allegedly engaged in collecting extortion money from shops, businesses and the public.
In a separate intelligence-driven operation on August 19, an active cadre of KCP (PWG), Md. Satabuddin alias Jiten (33) of Khurai Heikru Makhong Masjid Maning, was arrested from his locality under Heingang Police Station, Imphal East.
Major Drug Seizures
Manipur Police achieved a significant breakthrough against narcotics trafficking on August 19 with the arrest of two smugglers, Lungousiem of Songpi Kholui village and Ngamminlal of Songpi village, near Pioneer Camp along NH-102B in Singhat Police Station, Churachandpur district.
From their possession, police seized:
111 soap cases containing brown sugar, weighing around 1.3 kg,
A Yamaha MT 15 two-wheeler (MN 01AF 9857), and
A Mahindra Bolero (MN 04AF 5742).
Separately, on August 18, police arrested Kshetrimayum Naoba (34) of Kwakeithel Ningthemkol, Imphal West, and recovered 288 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his E-Rickshaw (MN01A/J9040), used for transporting the contraband.
Action Against Motor Vehicle Offences
Manipur Police also continued its drive to curb traffic-related violations. On August 19, 67 challans were issued against violators, amounting to Rs. 95,000 in fines. On the previous day, tinted films from six vehicles were removed.
Security Measures on Highways
Security forces ensured the movement of 464 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 on August 19. Strict security protocols, including 113 Nakas/Checkpoints across districts in both hills and valley areas, were maintained. No detention was reported during these checks.

Insurgency-related arrests: Over 25 militants and overground workers linked to outfits including KCP, PREPAK, and PLA have been arrested.
Drug seizures: More than 15 kg of contraband drugs (brown sugar, heroin, WY tablets) and thousands of bottles of codeine cough syrup were seized, with over 40 smugglers arrested.
Vehicle offences: Around 1,600 challans issued, generating fines of over Rs. 20 lakh.
Security deployments: Daily convoy escorts for essential goods ensured uninterrupted movement on NH-37 and NH-2, with over 11,000 vehicles secured during the period.
